What is the Model Context Protocol (MCP)?

MCP is an open standard that allows AI assistants to access other systems. ContractHero makes its data available via this standard. This means the connector can be used with any assistant that supports MCP.

Can the AI modify or delete contracts via the connector?

No. The connector is read-only. You can retrieve data, but you cannot technically modify or delete it.

Does the AI see more than I'm allowed to see in ContractHero?

No. Your existing permissions apply. Contracts and fields for which you do not have access will not be displayed by the wizard either.

How do I set up the connector?

Go to the Integration page in the ContractHero settings. There, enable the MCP Connector for your user and connect it to your AI assistant.

What types of queries are possible today?

The connector starts with a deliberately small set of queries, such as retrieving a list of contracts. This set is continuously expanded without requiring you to make any changes to the configuration.

Do I still need a ContractHero login for this?

Yes, for setting it up. But not for the query itself: You enter your question in the AI assistant, and ContractHero provides the data in the background.

Is this an alternative to the API?

No, it complements them. APIs and webhooks remain the standard for automated processes between systems. The MCP Connector is designed for direct queries by humans via an AI assistant.
